The Pixie Cottage Designers Showcase Saturday

Hello Everyone,
Today is the big day for The Pixie Cottage. Brand new stamps are trickling in almost everyday and The Pixie Cottage DT is more than ready to show them off with our Saturday Showcase! The Saturday Showcase is not a challenge, the DT is simply showing off new stamps that are either available or soon to be available. The name of my image is "Ten Feet Tall "and isn't this giraffe adorable!

I wanted a fun type card that either a little boy or girl would like. I kept my card relatively simple but embellished it with fun primary colors and added a little sparkle on the giraffes spots.

To see more Pixie Cottage Saturday Showcase cards, please click here. Just a reminder, don't forget about The Pixie Cottage Blog Candy, you still have time to get in on the fun!

Stampin N' Scrappin With Risa

Hello Everyone,
Today is my turn to host the weekly SNS and today you will be Stampin N' Scrappin with me, Risa. I was inspired by Angie Kennedy Juda to make this treat box with a window.
I put together a picture tutorial and I hope that this treat box inspires you.

Materials needed....

A piece of card stock or heavy weight design paper measuring 5 1/2 X 9 3/4, a tool to score the measurements, scissors, acetate, 1 " circle punch, corner rounder punch, snail adhesive and double sided tape.

1. Score your c/s on the long side, 3/4, 2 3/4, 5 1/4 and 7 1/4

2. On the short side of c/s score 1 3/4 on both sides.

3. Cut out the 3/4 lip and 2/34 section on both sides of the c/s. You should be left with a middle piece like the example shown above. This is the future lip and lid of the treat box.

4. On the opposite end of the c/s, punch out a 1" circle with your punch to the middle panel. I "eye balled" the center distance and pushed my 1" punch in as far as it would go. If you have a SU style punch, you will have to determine how deep to punch out the circle for your window. On the lip of the lid, trim around each of the corners to round them off.

5. Focus on the middle two panels and with your scissors, cut up to the 1 3/4 score line on both the inner middle panels.

6. Flip over the c/s and apply snail adhesive around the perimeters of the 1" punched out circle. Cut out a piece of acetate (1 3/4 X 1 3/4) and carefully place the acetate over the window piece. It should look like this................

7. Apply the dbl. sided tape to the middle outer panels first. Carefully remove the tape from the dbl. sided tape and begin to assemble the box.

8. Apply dbl. sided tape to the remaining two panels and finish assembling the box.

9. I didn't want the lip of my lid to show behind my window and ended up cutting 1/4 of the lip off for a cleaner look.

10. Finished treat box! Simply add candy and decorate! I only had M & M's on hand but something like Hershey's Kisses or peanut butter
cups would show better.

Thanks for joining in with Stamin N' Scrappin with me and I hope that you have been inspired.

Asian Princess

Hello Everyone,

After hearing so many people rave about the movie Avatar, my family and I decided to see for ourselves if all the hype was true. All I can say is everyone in my family LOVED the movie, the kids are still talking about it! Although Avatar has been in theaters for over a month, the theater was packed with people. I'm so glad we left the house early because we might have missed out on a good movie!

I brought this cute image (Mei-Mei) from Phindy's Place a few days ago and I think she is adorable. I love her joyful facial expression!

Mei-Mei is a digi image and she is colored in with Copic Markers. The card stocks are by Bazzil and Papertrey Ink. The design paper is by Doodlebug and I embellished my card with flowers and half pearls.

Well....I'm going to bring my post to a close for now. I'm a little tired and I have to put a few things away in the kitchen before going to bed. Have a wonderful evening and thanks so very much for stopping by!

As with all of our challenges, you are free to use any stamp that you desire but if you have any of the stamps that Kelly sells at her store, feel free to use them.

For more KLSNS DT inspiration and information regarding this weeks challenge, click here. We hope you enjoy this weeks challenge and can't wait to see your lovely cards! Have fun and let your creativity run wild!

Card details......
The name of my image is Sweet Savior (High Hopes) and I think my sentiment is by CTMH. The card stocks are from Bazzill and Papertrey Ink. The design paper is by Stemma (Sweet Dreams) and the inks are Memento Tuxedo Black and Copic Markers. I used three different Nestie dies for my card; the circular, square and scalloped square die. To add some texture, I also ran my circular die cut through my Cuttlebug and I embossed it with the Swiss Dots folder.
I tried to give the lamb a fluffy look by adding Polar White Flower Soft to his body. I also sprinkled on a really tiny bit of extra fine glitter over the Flower Soft while the glue was still wet. Other embellishments are half pearls, ribbon and a dab of Fruit Punch Stickles on the lamb's nose.

I hope you have a beautiful and creative weekend and I want to thank everyone so much for their kind comments. You guys are the best!

hugs:)

My first tutorial for The Pixie Cottage!... Design on a dime!

Hello Everyone,
Today I would like to share with you a tutorial on how to make cute gifts out of materials that would normally go to the recycle bin. I think it is great when you can save a few pennies and I hope that after viewing my picture tutorial, you will feel the same way as I do!

Materials needed..... any container of choice, design paper, ruler, marker, circular punches, double sided tape. Optional items are ribbon and border punch. (The sky is the limit here and you can basically use what ever you want to embellish)
* (the design paper measurements were 6" X 8 3/4 ")
I am beginning my tutorial with an empty Crystal Light container. I feel that it is easier to have some sort of guide to insure that your design paper wraps evenly and this is why I used a ruler and marker at this point. I found the almost invisible seam from the peeled off label and with my ruler, I drew a line on my container. Now, carefully line up your design paper against the drawn in line and peel off sections of the double sided tape as you are wrapping the design paper around your container.

I'm almost finished with my project and off to the fun part....deciding how to embellish!!! I could have left my project on the plain side but I decided to add some decorated trim.
I started with two pieces of card stock and the measurements were 1" X 8 1/2" . I then used my edge punch and created the fancy trim.
To keep a uniform look, apply your decorated trim at the seam of your design paper and carefully peel off the double sided tape as you proceed to wrap. Now it is time to decorate the lid of the container. Because of the small size of the lid, my Marvey U. circle and circle scallop punch were a perfect match.
To secure my ribbon, added two mini glue dots to the scalloped piece of card stock and then I applied some glue to the circular piece of design paper. Because my lid has a slight depression, I added some pop dots to give my scalloped piece some height. After adhering the scalloped piece to the lid, I simply made a bow and now I'm ready to add my treat! Once again, the "sky is the limit" here. You can put a treat bag inside the container or you can add pencils, pretzels ...what ever fits your needs. I added a simple treat bag and "Ta Da" I'm finished with my project . Because I made my gifts with only materials that I had on hand, my final cost was only $3.50.... which was the price of the candy and it was on sale!

I hope that my tutorial was inspirational and if you are on a budget, a money saver as well.

Risa:)
